Dec 1-15 Progress & Findings

From my experience thus far, one does not simply just get used to rolling out of bed at 5:30 am, putting layers of clothes on, and hopping out the front door to run for 30 minutes. This takes time. Lucky for me, time is on my side. 31 days to be exact. Like anything, any significant growth never happens over night.

For the first week, this routine was pretty rough. The sleeps were on and off, and the ability to stay awake from 7 am-9am after my run was difficult as well, since I don’t start work at GoodLife Fitness most days until 1pm. Because I had so much time from the end of my run to the start of my shift, a nap seemed more than justified. But this didn’t help create a more productive, fulfilled self. Sure I was building more mental grit from the task, which was awesome, but I was still hopinh to use my hours of free time now, more effectively.

What I discovered roughly 10 days in however, is moving myself away from a trigger spot like my couch after I finished breakfast, and putting myself in front of my computer to write, or work on my 365daychallenge or placing myself in a chair to read, helped prevent me from taking that ever so satisfying but not so productive nap.

Lesson learned. Take action.

For the 10 criteria I’m following every week, not a whole lot changed from day 1 to day 7. I definitely had more to think about now that the challenge was up and running, so naturally I felt more focused, but with that came a tiny bit of stress – not a bad stress, but a stress nonetheless.

Overall however, the routine is becoming just that, a bit more routine. My sleeps are exceedingly smoother, and how I spend my time after my run is becoming more useful and fulfilling. I’ve started filling my gaps with training sessions, and working on all aspects of the 365daychallenge (research, blogs, vlogs, etc.) Good news to report as well, i have found some wicked challenges to add to the list, which i’m excited to talk about in a future Vlog once their confirmed booked.

My willpower is also becoming much stronger with each early morning wake-up; stepping out the door is now being associated with being one day closer to building some real gnarly strong grit, compared to “wow, it’s dark, and early”. Al though I believe grit is a current strength of mine, I look at grit like a muscle that needs to be constantly tested and worked on.

Overall, I’m excited to see how the next 1/2 of December goes, and am quite optimistic on the growth, freedom, and focus I can create over the remaining days.
